The holdings of The State Archives in Kalisz - according to data from 31 September 2015, consist of 1475 units and archival collections with 297 315 archive units, which is 3510 linear metres. Most of the archival materials (up to 70%) were created after 1945. The files from the Partitions period and interwar period constitute about 15 % of the holdings, whereas the files from the Nazi occupation constitute less than 1%. The older documents are very rare, e.g. the early eighteenth century land records. More than a half of the archival files (52%) were created by judicial authorities (courts, notaries, public prosecutor’s office). General administration files (government and self-government) and special administration files constitute 30 % of the Archives holdings. Vital records and birth certificates constitute 6 % of the holdings, however they are the most commonly used files in the science laboratory and in research conducted by the Archives. Almost 5% of the files are connected with economic institutions, most often, industrial plants. The rest of the holdings consist of: archives resources, private peoples’ heritage, financial institutions files, acts of political parties and organisations, science and education institutions, cooperative organisations, associations and unions, healthcare establishments, labour unions, culture institution, state legislative bodies (e.g. senatorial offices), religious institutions and the guilds of master craftsmen.
